Is Kohli, Rohit and Ashwin's Career over in the Shortest Format for India?

After India had a whopping ten-wicket loss against England in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) might end the careers of Kohli, Rohit and Ashwin in the T20 International form of cricket. These three senior pros may be left out of the 2024 T20 World Cup in the Caribbean.

India's dream of winning its second T20 World Cup title was washed out after their ten-wicket loss against England at the Adelaide Oval on 10th November 2022.

India had a decent run in this T20 World Cup 2022 event. The men in blue won some close matches and had to face just one loss in the league stage.

It is early to talk about transition, says head coach Dravid

Indian head coach Rahul Dravid was asked about the changes in India's T20 International setup and the future of three Indian senior players of the shortest format side, Rohit, Virat and Ashwin. In the press conference, Dravid said it is very early to talk about transition.

Dravid didn't say anything about the future of those above-mentioned senior stars of Indian cricket in the shortest format.

But according to the reports of PTI and other news websites, Rohit, Ashwin and Kohli's careers in T20 International cricket might get over slowly, and it would not be wrong to think that they might not be considered for the next T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean.

The news reports also state that India will have a new team filled with youngsters, and they will also play a new brand of cricket. The dynamic all-rounder Hardik Pandya is said to be the future captain of the shortest-format side of the men in blue.

The next T20 World cup will be played after two years, and India will make a core for that ICC mega event from now.

Retirement is a personal decision: BCCI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also clarified that they have never asked any player to retire from the domestic cricket or International Cricket arena.

India's main board (BCCI) have said that it is an individual decision of a player to quit all forms of cricket, and BCCI has nothing to do with that.

In 2023, more matches of the shortest format will be played, and some senior players would want to play just the red ball and fifty-overs format. So they will quit the shortest format.

The sources also say that the senior players might bid farewell to the T20 International matches next year. The players need not announce their retirement. They should stop playing a particular format or all forms of the game.
