The England cricket team management on Thursday announced the release of batsman Ollie Pope from the squad ahead of the second Test against India at Lord's. Now, he will be seen playing for Surrey in the Royal London Cup match against Derbyshire. Giving this information on Twitter, England Cricket wrote, "Batsman @OPope32 has been released from our Test squad for the second Test against India. Pope will play for @surreycricket in their Royal London Cup fixture against Derbyshire."
Meanwhile, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Wednesday announced the inclusion of pacer Saqib Mahmood as cover for the second Test against India at the Lord's Cricket Ground starting Thursday. Earlier spinner Dominic Bess was released from the team and has returned to Yorkshire. "Lancashire fast bowler Saqib Mahmood has been included in the squad as cover for the second Test against India," the ECB said in an official statement. Spinner Dom Bess will leave the team this morning and return to Yorkshire.
Meanwhile, the last day of the first Test match between India and England ended in a draw after being spoiled by rain. The team led by Virat Kohli was in a strong position of winning the game. The team needed 157 runs to win on the final day with nine wickets in hand. But due to rain, not a single ball was played on the last day of the match. Meanwhile, the bowlers of Team India, led by Jasprit Bumrah, performed brilliantly in the match. Except Captain Joe Root, other batsmen in the host team were seen struggling. This was the reason that the English team could not even score 200 runs in the first innings. Due to Joe Root's century in the second innings, the team was able to score 30o.
