Players will put a black fist logo on their collar, which will have 'Black Lives Matter' written on it. It is designed by Watford footballer Troy Deeney's girlfriend Alisha Hosanna.
England captain Joe Root said in a statement, "It is important that solidarity is shown with the black community and necessary awareness is created about equality and justice." He further said, "England's players and management are united in this task and Wherever racist bias exists, it will use the platform of international cricket to fully support the purpose of removing it. The third test match between England and West Indies will be named as 'The Ruth Strauss Foundation Test'. This has been done to support families facing the death of a parent due to cancer. Players will also wear a special Ruth Strauss Foundation branded test shirt and red cap that will be given to them before the start of the game. Advertisements will be painted red at Manchester's Old Trafford for #RedForRuth Day on July 25 this year, including stumps and boundary boards. Funds raised during this time will be donated to the Ruth Strauss Foundation.
The foundation was formed by former England captain Andrew Strauss in memory of his wife, who died of lung cancer in 2018. Strauss said, "I am honored to have received support from the cricket family last year."
