The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken strict action in the controversy between India and Bangladesh in the final of the Under-19 World Cup. ICC has found five players from both India and Bangladesh guilty in the scuffle and misconduct in the final match and has taken action against them for violating the code of conduct. The ICC has found Bangladesh's Shamim Hossain, Rakibul Hasan and Mohammad Towhid Hridoy and India's Ravi Bishnoi and Akash Singh guilty of breaching label 3 under the ICC's Code of Conduct.
All the players were accused of violating Article 2.21, while another charge of breaking Article 2.5 was received against Bishnoi. All five players have accepted the sanctions proposed by ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup match referee Graeme Labrooy. Bangladesh's Mohammed Tawhid Hridoy has been given ten suspension points equal to six demerit points, Shamim Hossain eight suspension points equal to six demerit points and Rakibul Hasan five suspension points equal to five demerit points which will remain on their record for the next two years.
Apart from these, Akash Singh and Ravi Bishnoi have also been given six demerit points equal to eight suspension points and five suspension points with five demerit points. Bishnoi, the highest wicket-taker in the tournament, has been given two other demerit points for breaking Article 2.5. He made objectionable gestures during the match under provocation after taking the wicket of Abhishek Das in the 23rd over.
