Indian men's badminton team created a massive history today by bringing the Thomas Cup to the nation for the very first time in 73 years. The team won this historic match by defeating Indonesia, a 14-time winner of the championship.

India clean swept Indonesia, the opponent of the match by 3-0. It must be noted here that India reached the finals for the very first time and the rest is history. In a series of 5 matches, India won three matches(2 singles and one double).

PM Modi upon this victory, congratulating the team on the occasion, tweeted,” The Indian badminton team has scripted history! The entire nation is elated by India winning the Thomas Cup! Congratulations to our accomplished team and best wishes to them for their future endeavours. This win will motivate so many upcoming sportspersons.”

The team upon securing victory in singles from Lakshay Sen won in doubles too, the duo Chirag Shetty and Satvik Sairaj, lost their first game initially, but won eventually by grabbing the remaining two games.

Indian sports minister Anurag Thakur upon the historic victory announced a cash reward of Rs 1 crore for the winners of the Thomas Cup and tweeted,” As #TeamIndia defeats 14-time #ThomasCup Champions Indonesia (🇮🇳3-0🇮🇩) to win it's 1️st ever #ThomasCup2022, @IndiaSports is proud to announce a cash award of ₹ 1 crore for the team in relaxation of rules to acknowledge this unparalleled feat!

Indian shuttlers while adding another feather to their crown had also yielded a prestigious moment to the nation as India became the 6th nation to be crowned with Thomas Cup.
