IPL 2025: Punjab Kings have appointed Australian cricketing legend Ricky Ponting as their new head coach for IPL 2025. Ponting replaces Trevor Bayliss, who had been the head coach of Punjab for several years.
Just two months ago, Ponting resigned as the head coach of Delhi Capitals, and he has now signed a 4-year deal with Punjab Kings, which will last until 2028.
There is speculation that Ricky Ponting could be given full control over Punjab Kings' coaching and support staff, but no clear decision has been made yet regarding the fate of the existing staff.
The previous coaching team included Trevor Bayliss (Head Coach), Sanjay Bangar (Head of Cricket Development), Charl Langeveldt (Fast Bowling Coach), and Sunil Joshi (Spin Bowling Coach).
It’s worth noting that Punjab Kings have changed coaches six times in the last seven seasons.
In the previous season, Punjab Kings played 14 matches in the league stage but managed to secure victory in only five of them. The team finished second-last on the points table.
Punjab has a long history of getting close to the playoffs but falling short in the title race. Seventeen seasons of the Indian Premier League have passed, yet Punjab’s title drought remains unbroken.
The responsibility now lies on Ricky Ponting to guide Punjab to their first-ever IPL championship.
Ponting first took on a coaching role in 2014 when he became the coach of Mumbai Indians. He then worked with Delhi Daredevils/Delhi Capitals for seven years, and now, he has joined a new team, Punjab Kings.
