According to ESPN, Kylian Mbappe is seeking to leave Paris Saint-Germain in January since his relationship with the club has soured.
The report comes only five months after Mbappe, 23, signed a new deal with PSG, with insiders claiming he is unhappy with the club's direction both on and off the field. He is open to any destination, although rumors say he would love to join Real Madrid.
PSG has not issued an official statement, but sources say the club wants to keep Mbappe and plans to resolve the matter after Tuesday night's Champions League game against Benfica, which finished in a 1-1 tie with the France international starting and scoring for the hosts.
According to sources, Mbappe believes that promises made by sporting director Luis Campos, president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, and manager Christophe Galtier have not been fulfilled. According to sources close to Mbappe, signing a new contract to continue at the club in May was a mistake.
Campos stated before PSG's match against Benfica that Mbappe had neither asked him nor Al-Khelaifi to quit the club in January.
"I am very surprised because I spend all my days with Kylian Mbappe, and he never once asked me or the president to leave in January," Campos told RMC Sport.
"We have to be very clear that this isn't a declaration -- it is news that has come out a few hours before a very important match against Benfica.
"As for me, I have a three-year contract at PSG and I am very happy to be here, in this place and I work every day so that I can fulfill my ambitions at the end of my contract."
Sergio Ramos refused to comment on his PSG teammate's future after Tuesday's match, urging caution over speculations about Mbappe's club future.
"I see him [Mbappe] very happy," Ramos said. "I enjoy playing with him and his friendship. If he has to say something he will say it. And he just renewed his contract. We have to stay away from the reports that are going around since we don't know if they are true"
Mbappe was promised that he would play alongside a No. 9 next to him in attack who could act as a pivot, but this has not occurred. Mbappe's friendship with Neymar has worsened, according to insiders, and he was assured that PSG would sign another center-back, which did not materialize this summer.
According to ESPN, the Ligue 1 champions were open to proposals for Neymar last summer but were unable to find a club for him.
According to insiders, the three-year contract Mbappe signed in May made him the highest-paid player in the world, and it included a substantial signing-on fee.
Mbappe will earn $128 million for the 2022-23 season, according to Forbes, a record for the magazine's annual rankings. His emergence at the top of football's richest list marked the first time in eight years that a player other than Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo had done so.
