The ODI series between Pakistan and Afghanistan, scheduled to take place from next month postponed indefinitely. Ever since the Taliban took over Afghanistan, there was constant apprehension about this series. Now, it has been decided to postpone this series to be played in Sri Lanka as the Afghanistan team was not able to travel due to the prevailing situation in the country.
On Monday, it was reported that it would be played in Pakistan instead of Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, 10 key lockdown imposed in Sri Lanka and the Afghanistan team is currently not able to travel by air. Hamid Shinwari, executive officer of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, said, "Keeping in mind the much discussion and the mental health of the players, we have taken a decision together to postpone this series against Pakistan for the time being."
Shinwari further said, "Until this evening we had principally agreed to play the series in Pakistan and we are thankful to Pakistan for all the support they offered. But then considering all the situations, especially our players' mental readiness, we found that that they are not ready. We needed a camp and we needed time for them to acclimatise to the weather and conditions. But with all the delay in making efforts to play in Sri Lanka, we have lost enough time. Now making a trip to Pakistan without preparation in such a short time isn't working for our players. Pakistan is a good team and playing them at home you need to be fully prepared which, unfortunately, we are not so we have decided to postpone it indefinitely," he added.
Due to the current situation in Afghanistan, no business travel from Kabul is possible at this time. The Afghanistan team was to leave for Sri Lanka via Dubai to play the ODI series. The team had to go to Pakistan via road from where all the players had to go to Dubai. It was not possible to travel due to the situation created in the country.
