Pollution Alert: Due to rising pollution levels in Delhi, Stage 2 of the GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan) has been implemented. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) issued the order as the AQI level crossed 300.

With the enforcement of GRAP 2, the use of diesel generators has been banned in Delhi-NCR. This order will take effect from 8 AM on October 22.

The CAQM has issued these directives in response to increasing pollution in NCR and surrounding areas.

CAQM's GRAP-2 Guidelines Issued for Delhi-NCR

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has issued several guidelines along with the order to implement GRAP-2 in Delhi-NCR.

  1. Ensure mechanical/vacuum sweeping and water sprinkling on identified roads on a daily basis.

  2. On roads with heavy traffic corridors and in sensitive areas, ensure the use of dust suppressants (at least every alternate day, during non-peak hours) and water sprinkling to curb road dust and ensure proper disposal of accumulated dust at designated landfill sites.

  3. Intensify inspections to strictly enforce dust control measures at Category C and D construction sites.

  4. Ensure focused and targeted action to reduce air pollution at all identified hotspots in NCR. Intensify remedial measures for key areas contributing to poor air quality at each hotspot.

  5. Ensure an uninterrupted power supply to reduce the use of alternative power generation equipment, including diesel generator sets.

  6. Strictly implement the schedule for the regulated operation of diesel generator sets across all sectors, including industrial, commercial, and residential, as per directive number 76 dated September 29, 2023.

  7. Synchronize traffic operations for smooth flow and deploy sufficient personnel at intersections and traffic-congested areas.

  8. Issue public alerts in newspapers, on TV, and on radio to inform people about pollution levels and provide do's and don'ts to help reduce polluting activities.

  9. Increase parking fees to reduce the use of private vehicles.

  10. Enhance CNG/electric bus and metro services by adding more fleets.

  11. During winter, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) will ensure that security personnel are provided with electric heaters to avoid open burning of biomass/MSW (municipal solid waste).
