Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren officially joined the BJP on Friday in Ranchi. He was inducted into the party by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Jharkhand BJP President Babulal Marandi.
Several senior leaders, including Laxmikant Bajpai and Arjun Munda, were also present on the occasion.
In the presence of Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Soren joined the BJP along with a large number of his supporters.
During the event, he received a grand welcome, which left him emotional for a moment.
On this occasion, Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that Champai Soren has spent his entire life serving the people with honesty, and today he has joined the BJP to uproot Jharkhand's corrupt coalition government. "I welcome him wholeheartedly. The tiger is alive... He is the tiger, and with his support, the BJP will now form its government and free the people of Jharkhand from this dishonest regime," Chouhan said.
He further mentioned that Soren will play a very important role in the BJP and will also be a part of the core committee.
The inclusion of tribal leader Champai Soren (67) into the BJP is being seen as a significant achievement for the state's main opposition party.
It is believed that this move will strengthen the BJP's efforts to solidify its position among the Scheduled Tribes in the state, a community that has been a stronghold of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).
Champai Soren was considered the closest ally of JMM supremo Shibu Soren. On Wednesday, Champai Soren resigned from the JMM, stating that the current policies and working style of the state government had compelled him to leave the party he had served for many years.
