Hemant Soren was sworn in by Jharkhand Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhavan, administering the oath of office and secrecy. Soren's father and JMM supremo, Shibu Soren, his mother, Rupi Soren, his wife, Kalpana Soren, along with senior leaders of the JMM-led alliance, were present at the swearing-in ceremony.

Earlier in the day, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) announced that Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan had invited Hemant Soren to form the government in the state, and he would take the oath as Chief Minister on July 7.

Later, the JMM-led coalition decided that Soren would take the oath as Chief Minister today (Thursday) itself. Champai Soren resigned from the Chief Minister post on Wednesday, and Hemant Soren, who was released on bail in a money laundering case, claimed the mandate to form the government.

Hemant Soren will be the third leader in Jharkhand to take the oath as Chief Minister three times.
