An ex-MLA from Punjab’s Atam Nagar, the founder, and president of the Lok Insaaf Party Simarjeet Singh Bains surrendered against the Ludhiana court on Monday in a rape case of the 44-year-old woman. He was booked under the case last year in July.
He along with four others including his brother Paramjit Singh Bains, Pradeep Kumar who is Simar’s employee, Baljinder Kaur and Jasvir Kaur surrendered. Last year too, two of the accused in this case were arrested which included another brother of Simarjeet, Karamjit Bains and his assistant, Sukhchain Singh.
Joint commissioner of the Ludhiana police said about the proceedings, “the four accused including Simarjeet have surrendered before the court and police have taken them to a three-day custody from here on.”
Earlier, the victim of this case, the 44-year-old woman had filed a case against the former MLA last year and alleged that he had raped her multiple times in 2020 when she approached him for help in a property dispute case.
Police filed a case in July 2021 but no action was taken then. In December 2021 too, a charge sheet was filed for the same but he wasn’t arrested then. However, the sufferer kept protesting outside the police commissioner’s office and addressed the media that this protest will only culminate when the accused will be arrested.
Earlier, Simarjeet had filed a plea before the Haryana court and Ludhiana court against the woman’s FIR and looked to crush the survivor’s words on rape charges on him. However, last month both the courts denied the plea of the ex-MLA.
In April this year, the judicial magistrate declared him the proclaimed offender in this case following his absence from the court and nil response to warrants issued to him.
All of the accused are booked under numerous sections, Section 376 (of rape), Section 354 (criminally forcing a woman), Section 354-A (of sexually harassing a woman), Section 506 (of criminal fear), and Section 120-B (conspiracy of Indian penal code).
