OnePlus and Oppo smartphone companies have been banned in Germany. These two Chinese companies have been accused of patent infringement, leading to a halt in the sale of their smartphones.

It’s worth noting that Oppo and OnePlus are two brands under the same company, which sells smartphones in several global markets outside China. They hold a significant market share worldwide.

What's the Case?

These two Chinese companies have been accused of using 5G technology without permission. According to InterDigital, a wireless tech research and development company, both OnePlus and Oppo have utilized 5G technology without authorization, violating patent laws.

As a result, the sale of their smartphones has been banned in Germany. Following the ban, OnePlus has delisted its smartphones from its official e-store in Germany.

However, both companies' other products, including smartwatches, earbuds, and other devices, will continue to be sold in the market as usual.

This isn't the first time OnePlus has faced a sales ban on its smartphones. Two years ago, OnePlus was also accused of infringing on Nokia's patents, which affected the sales of both OnePlus and its parent company Oppo's smartphones.

OnePlus Issues Statement

The Chinese brand OnePlus has released a statement regarding the patent infringement issue. The company stated that it is in contact with the security research firm InterDigital and is hopeful that the matter will be resolved soon, allowing smartphone sales to resume in Germany.

OnePlus emphasized that the company respects the rules of high-value intellectual property rights, which are crucial for fostering innovation in the industry.

When OnePlus, or any company, uses another company's technology, it must obtain permission from the patent holder. In such cases, the company using the technology pays royalties to the company that holds the patent.

Patenting any technology or innovation is essential to prevent copying. If someone is found copying, they are required to pay royalties as a penalty.
