The government has taken a big step to increase the firepower of the indigenously built light combat aircraft Tejas. The government will equip Tejas fighter jets with Hammer missiles. The Indian Air Force has ordered France for its supply. Hammer missiles are so powerful that they can easily destroy the enemy's strong bunker and any kind of military posts on the ground. These missiles are capable of targeting their targets from a distance of 70 km.
This exercise to increase the firepower of Tejas is going on at a time when India's tension and standoff with China remain on the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat said a few days ago that the Chinese army has made local constructions at some places in its part of the LAC. In view of this, India is also fully prepared for its retaliatory preparations. In view of the ongoing standoff with China on the border, the government has given emergency powers to the Air Force for the purchase of weapons.
Government sources told news agency ANI, "The process of installing Hammer missiles in Tejas fighter jets is underway. This will greatly increase the power of Tejas. Hammer missiles fitted in Tejas will easily destroy the enemy's strong bases and military base from a great distance. The Indian Air Force has already received a consignment of Hammer missiles. India got these missiles when the state-of-the-art fighter aircraft Rafale started getting from France. In view of the ongoing tension with China in eastern Ladakh at that time, French officials agreed to supply Hammer missiles.
The HAMMER (Highly Agile Modular Munition Extended Range) is an air-to-surface medium-range weapon. It was initially developed for the French Navy and Air Force. Also, this weapon will play an important role in destroying enemy bunkers, hiding places and bases located on the inaccessible and high hills of the Himalayas. Hammer is a special type of bomb that can easily destroy enemy armoured vehicles, bunkers built on high hills. It has a strike range of 60-70 km with a medium range. It is three meters long and its weight is about 330 kg.
