Kia Motors' much-awaited sub-compact SUV Sonnet will be launched from the Indian market in September-October. Sonnet's concept was introduced at the Auto Expo. It will be the cheapest Kia car in the Indian market. Direct competition on the market will come from SUVs like Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport. The sonnet SUV will be based on a platform with the Hyundai Venue. It will have three engine options, including 1.2-litre petrol, 1.5-liter turbo-diesel and 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engines. There will be manual and automatic gearbox options on the sonnet. The small SUV from Kia features a slew of UVO-connected car technology including wireless charging, Bose Premium sound system, automatic climate control, multi-functional steering wheel, cruise control, rear parking camera, LED headlamp with DRL and LED tail-lamp. Features will be available.
The SUV will come under the partnership of Toyota-Suzuki, a rebadged version of Maruti Brezza. It will have a different look than Breja. Changes in the look will see more in front of the SUV. There will be mild changes at the rear. However, there will be no change in the overall profile. The Urban Cruiser will get a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with Brezza. This engine generates 104bhp power and 138Nm torque. With this, options for a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic gearbox will be available. This year's Urban Cruiser will launch during the festive season.
Renault will launch its much-awaited SUV during the festive season. It will be based on the CMF-A + platform, which has been used in the Tribar MPV. Renault Kaigar will have two 1.0-liter engine options. One will be turbocharged, while the other will be a naturally aspirated engine. The 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine gives around 95hp power. At the same time, the 1.0-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine generates 75hp of power. The price is expected to be between 6 lakh to 8.5 lakh rupees. It will be one of the cheapest SUVs in its segment.
