The mortal remains of an army jawan, who went missing during the Satopanth ascent 15 years ago, have been sent to his native village with military honors. Earlier on Monday, the body was given a guard of honor with a salute in the District Magistrate's office premises. Army officers including in charge District Magistrate Gaurav Kumar laid wreaths on the mortal remains of the jawan.
Recently, a team of the Indian Army went to the Gangotri Himalaya for the ascent of Satopanth (7075 m), the highest peak in the Gangotri Himalayas, to commemorate the Golden Victory Year. During the expedition, on September 22, the remains of a mountaineer's body were found by the team. Which was collected by the army personnel and transported to Gangotri and handed over to the police.
The army had suspected that he was the said jawan from the remains of the recovered jawan's body and his army clothes. Later, the postmortem was also done by filling the Panchnama of the body of the jawan handed over by the army. On the apprehension of the army, the police have also taken a sample of the jawan's mortal remains for a DNA test.
The army had feared the recovered body to be Modinagar Ghaziabad Uttar Pradesh resident of Naik Anish Tyagi, son of Rajkumar, who went missing during Satopanth ascent in the year 2005. The said jawan was a member of the expedition team of the army. Which went missing due to being buried in the avalanche during the ascent.
On Monday, the mortal remains of the missing jawan were sent off with military honors in the Collectorate premises. Lt Col Harshdeep Gehlot said that he has been identified on the basis of matching the circumstances of the 2005 incident and the place where the body was found. The dead body was found in the same condition at the place where the incident took place. Discussions have also been held with the members of the team of the year 2005. Even family members are accepting it. Although DNA test has not been done yet. The body has been sent to the jawan's native village with military honors.
