However, the police have reached the spot. In fact, the Congress is today (Wednesday) protesting against the arrest of DK Shivakumar in Delhi, Mysore and Bengaluru. Senior party leaders are accusing the government of arresting Shivkumar under a conspiracy.

Congress leaders have been continuously accusing the government over the arrest of DK Shivakumar. Senior leader of Mallikarjun Kharge wants to demoralize him and party workers. Whenever the Income Tax Department and ED called, as per the rules, he responded. He is cooperating. Is he absconding? Why are they doing this? Just to harass and mentally torture her. I condemn it.

Congress leader Ramalinga Reddy said the arrest of DK Shivakumar is 100% politically motivated. He alleged that the Central Government is misusing everything from the Income Tax Department, ED, Reserve Bank of India, Election Commission. They have been doing this for the last five years. They are killing democracy.

The Karnataka High Court had dismissed Shivakumar's petition challenging the ED summons. After which he had to appear before the agency. In September last year, the investigating agency had registered a case of money laundering against Shivkumar and Hanumanthaiya, a worker at the Karnataka building in New Delhi. The case was registered against the Shivkumar by the Income Tax Department on the basis of a charge sheet filed last year. In this charge sheet filed in a special court in Bangalore, Shivkumar has been accused of tax evasion and transactions of crores of rupees through hawala.

2 August 2017, the Income Tax Department raided the residence of Congress leader Shivkumar in Delhi, during which Rs 8.59 crore cash was recovered from him. Subsequently, the Income Tax Department had registered a case against the Congress leader and his four other associates. The agency had registered a case under sections 277 and 278 of the Income Tax Act, 1961 and under sections 120 (b), 193 and 199 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
