MLAs of Dravida Munnetra Kazgham (DMK) walked out of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly when Governor Banwarilal Purohit was making his speech. He alleged that Governor Banwarilal Purohit during his speech did not allow DMK President MK Stalin to raise the issue of Citizenship Amendment Act.

The DMK along with many of its partners and other organizations had taken out a rally in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act on 23 December 2019. The rally was led by DMK President MK Stalin.

Earlier, in a meeting chaired by Stalin on 18 December, it was said that the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) be canceled and it was decided that the procession would be taken out on 23 December.
