The BCCI has finally found a window for the remaining matches of the IPL. According to sources, the remaining matches will be held in the UAE between 15 September and 15 October. Earlier, the board was considering two options for these matches. These included England and the UAE.
The report quoted sources as saying that IPL has already been done in UAE and in such a situation it has been decided to complete the current season of the tournament. The IPL 2021 season was postponed due to Corona only after 29 matches. A special general meeting of the board is to be held on this day. 31 matches out of 60 are yet to be held.
According to sources, a 5-Test series will begin between England and India in the UK from 4 August. There is a 9-day gap between the second and third tests. If this gap is reduced to 4 days, then the board will get more days to hold the IPL matches. The BCCI is still under discussion with the England Cricket Board.
Hemang Amin, the interim CEO of BCCI, will offer the remaining matches of the IPL to the UAE and England in a special meeting of the BCCI on 29 May. Their first choice is UAE.
First is low cost: The first reason for getting IPL in UAE is that it will cost less to make IPL in UAE than in England. Hotels, stadiums, etc. England costs more than UAE. Teams in the UAE can easily reach the stadium by road. Travel expenses will increase in England. Excess travel will also increase the risk of corona infection.
Second is the season: The second reason for the IPL not having the remaining matches in the UK is the uncertain England season in September. Many matches may have to be canceled due to rain there. While in the UAE, there will be cold weather in September. Which will be better for the players and staff.
Third is UAE experience: The third reason for UAE to be the first choice for the remaining matches of the IPL is the experience of holding the tournament there. The previous season of the IPL was held in the UAE itself. In such a situation, there is information about the challenges faced there. While there have never been any IPL matches in England.
In such a situation, the challenges there are not known. At the same time, due to Corona, the protocols of different cities and restrictions there are not known. Whereas the UAE is aware of the protocol and the restrictions imposed in all three cities due to the IPL between Corona. In such a situation, there will not be much problem in managing here.
If the rest of the IPL matches were held in the UAE, this would be the third time that Arabia would host the world's largest cricket league. Earlier in 2014 during the Lok Sabha elections in India hosted the first 20 matches of the league. At the same time, the 2020 season was held in the UAE because of Corona.
Last season, 60 matches were held at 3 stadiums including Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. This also generated good revenue for the UAE. The BCCI also gave 98.5 crore rupees to the Arab Cricket Board last year in exchange for hosting the IPL. In such a situation, hosting 31 matches is not a big deal for UAE.
The sixth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) began on 20 February. But it was stopped on March 4 after a support staff including 6 players got corona infected. Then there were only 14 matches in the league. Pakistan's preparations were that the rest of the matches be held in Pakistan from June 1, but it was also postponed due to the second wave of Corona. Now the remaining 20 matches will be played in UAE from 5 June.
There is also an agreement between the PCB and the United Arab Emirates Cricket Board. Salman Iqbal, owner of PSL team Karachi Kings, told that all players, staff, officials and broadcast officials will have to stay in Quarantine for 10 days in Abu Dhabi. During this time, the corona will be checked regularly by everyone including the players.
At the same time, Sunrisers Hyderabad's Wriddhiman Saha, Delhi Capitals' Amit Mishra, KKR's Sandeep Warrier, and Varun Chakraborty, CSK bowling coach L Balaji and batting coach Michael Hussey were found corona infected in the mid-season of IPL 2021. After this, the BCCI and IPL administration had no other option but to stop the league in the middle session.
