An FIR has been lodged against BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari and his brother Soumendu in West Bengal. They have been accused of stealing relief material from the municipality. Ratnadeep Manna, a member of the Kanthi Municipal Administrative Board, lodged a complaint against the BJP leader and his brother on June 1 at the Kanthi police station. Soumendu has also been the former Municipal Chief of Kanthi Municipality.
It has been said in the complaint that on May 29 at around 12.30 pm, at the behest of Suvendu and his brother, the lock of the warehouse of the municipality office was forcibly opened and the government tripal was taken from here. Its price is being said to be around one lakh rupees. It was told in the complaint that the BJP leaders also used the Central Armed Forces during the theft.
The case was registered on the day a close associate of Suvendu was arrested by Kolkata Police in a cheating case. Rakhal Bera was arrested in 2019 for duping a person on the pretext of a job in the Ministry of Irrigation and Waterways. The complainant alleged that he paid two lakh rupees, yet he did not get the job.
Suvendu defeated Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by 1956 votes from the Nandigram seat in the assembly elections. BJP emerged as the main opposition party for the first time in the election. Of the total 292 seats, the Trinamool won 213 seats. BJP got 77 seats in its account. Others won two seats. At the same time, the account of the Congress and Left alliance was not even opened.
