West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's petition challenging the Nandigram election results will be heard today. Meanwhile, Mamta has also demanded to change the bench of Justice Kaushik Chandra hearing this case. Recently, Trinamool Congress leaders had shared an alleged photo of Justice Chandra, in which he was with BJP leaders.

Mamta had filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court challenging the election process of Nandigram. He alleged that Nandigram was rigged. Mamta has demanded the cancellation of the Nandigram election. A single bench of Justice Kaushik Chandra was formed to hear this petition of Mamta. However, now Mamta has filed a petition in the High Court demanding the change of the bench.

What is the whole matter?

On May 2, the results of the assembly elections held in 4 states and one union territory of the country were declared. In Bengal, Mamata lost from Nandigram seat to Suvendu Adhikari of BJP by 1956 votes. On the day of the result, Mamta demanded recounting of votes, which was not accepted by the Election Commission.

After this, Mamta went to the Calcutta High Court against the election results. In this petition, he has accused Suvendu Adhikari of bribery in elections, corruption and seeking votes on the basis of religion and demanded cancellation of elections.

Mamta demanded early by-elections

Here, amidst reports of postponement of the by-election due to Corona, Mamta has demanded an early election. He has told the EC that by-elections should be held soon. There is no need to give more days for the by-election. We are ready.

He said that unless the Prime Minister says, he will not announce the election. I request the Prime Minister for the by-elections. He said that voting took place in eight phases in the state. In the 7th and 8th phases, the corona had increased significantly. Now that the rate of infection is decreasing, what is the problem in holding by-elections?

By-elections to be held on seven seats

Elections are to be held on 7 assembly seats in West Bengal. It includes Khardah, Samsherganj, Jangipur, Shantipur, Bhawanipur, Dinhata and Gosaba assembly constituencies. Mamta Banerjee is preparing to contest the assembly elections from Bhawanipur. Recently, MLA from Bhawanipur Shobhandev Chattopadhyay has resigned from the post of MLA.
