The exercise of formation of the new cabinet of Punjab has intensified. Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi is camping in Delhi. It is being said that the announcement of the new cabinet is possible very soon. The high command and Chief Minister Channi are churning out the names of the ministers. On Friday night, Chief Minister Channi reached the residence of former Congress President Rahul Gandhi. According to reports, the names of the new ministers are expected to be finalized by Saturday. The swearing-in will take place next week.
The Congress leadership is taking a decision regarding the formation of a new cabinet in Punjab by keeping Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi ahead. Also, Channi has been given full freedom to form his own team. This is the reason why state president Navjot Singh Sidhu is away from this exercise. It is expected that the names of the Punjab cabinet will be finalized by Saturday.
If all goes well, the swearing-in ceremony will take place next week. Instead of imposing the names of ministers for the Channi cabinet, the Congress leadership is discussing the names with other senior leaders on their suggestion. Suggestions of some other senior leaders associated with Punjab are also considered important for the selection process.
The performance of the ministers in Captain Amarinder Singh's cabinet was also reviewed and only those names with whom Channi would be comfortable working are being reconsidered. The leadership also wants to induct some new faces, who were away from any particular faction or controversies. Also, the focus of the leadership is to put forward such a face of the cabinet, who can be kept ahead in the election and walk away. Along with regional and caste equations for ministers, more questions are being raised about their public image and background.
