British PM Boris Johnson finally agreed to serve his resignation as party head from the Conservative Party after many of its leaders including the sitting MPs showed their absolute dissent and even resigned from the Cabinet.
Boris Johnson would now be serving as the Interim President by October as the new President would be taking the position by the time. Boris before offering his resignation as the party head, Johnson addressed to the nation and said,” With a very sad heart, I am resigning as the Leader of the Conservative Party. When our Ministers will elect the new leader, I will resign from the post of Prime Minister too. Our MPs were willing to bring a new face to the post of Prime Minister and I respect their will. The process for electing a new leader will start next week.”
Post to this address, Johnson held a cabinet meeting and declared that he would not be taking any big decisions during this period, also, matters related to fiscal means would also be taken by the new Prime Minister.
What next?
Britain, which proudly takes the credit for delivering democracy to the world owns no written constitution of itself, however, it runs on a system of governance based on tradition for centuries. As reported by Daily, Boris is doing similar to David Cameron and Theresa May, i.e. he would be serving as the acting PM until the constitutional assembly elects a new leader. The process of electing a new face might last for weeks or even months.
Are there any possibility of new election?
As per the rules, the parliament can not bring another No-Confidence motion in a span of 12 months. Johnson in the previous motion, held a month back, managed to win by mere margins. Various ministers from the party had been rigorously demanding to end this immunity period or to reduce the time phase of the period. Another possible alternative for the same might be the declaration of new elections by Johnson. However, it owns very less possibilities as the conservative party is not in a favour of new elections.
What made the Brexit hero exit from his own government?
Boris Johnson, once acclaimed for leaving the European Union all of a sudden faced harsh critics even from his own party. Boris actually behaved like Donald Trump of the UK and went into the news on negative terms. Be it his Liquor party before the funeral of Prince Philip or during Covid Party, the Party Gate incident, or the latest development in which he appointed sexual abuse accused Chris Pincher as Deputy Chief Whip of the party.
The latest development led to wide dissent against him and even his own party members offered their resignation to show their protest. However, Johnson, later on, admitted that he was wrong to include Chris in the government. However, this was too late for him.
