The SIT has taken into custody the victim who accused the senior BJP leader and former Union State Home Minister Chinmayananda of rape. Sources in the UP police said that the police has taken the victim, who is studying law, with them for questioning. Also, the victim appealed to the local court of Shahjahanpur for exemption from arrest. The matter will be heard in the court after noon. According to sources, when the victim was going to file her petition in the court, the police stopped her on the way and took her along. The police has also registered a case of extortion against the victim.
Significantly, the Allahabad High Court on Monday refused to grant any relief on the application of the victim student of Shahjahanpur seeking to stop her arrest in the case of Sexual harassment allegations against former Union Minister Swami Chinmayanand.
Chinmayanand, arrested on Friday, was taken from Shahjahanpur jail on Monday to a hospital in Lucknow where he underwent angiography for heart related problems. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case submitted its report to a bench of two judges in a sealed envelope.
A bench of Justice Manoj Mishra and Justice Rani Chauhan expressed satisfaction over the investigation so far in the case and fixed the date for October 22, 2019 for filing further report. After the SIT filed a case against him for allegedly attempting extortion from Chinmayanand and arresting three people, the aggrieved student demanded a stay on her arrest. However, the court said, "If the aggrieved girl wants any relief in this regard, she can file a fresh petition before the appropriate bench."
