A massive fire broke out at Al-Hussein Covid Hospital in Iraq's southern city of Nasiriyah on Monday. In this 44 people including 2 health workers died and 67 people were injured. The fire has been brought under control.
A preliminary investigation has revealed that the fire was caused by an explosion in an oxygen tank in the Covid ward. Following the incident, Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi called a meeting of senior ministers. In this, the security managers of Nasiriyah Hospital were ordered to be suspended and arrested.
During the accident, the health workers took out the burning bodies from the Covid Hospital. During this, many of the evacuated patients were coughing badly due to the smoke. The investigation into the accident has been started. The cause of the fire is being ascertained. The death toll may rise as many people are still said to be missing.
Earlier in April, a fire broke out in Baghdad's Corona Hospital in which 82 people lost their lives, while 110 people were injured. Iraq's health department, already destroyed by war and sanctions, is already facing difficulties in dealing with the corona virus. So far more than 14.38 lakh people have been infected by this epidemic here, while 17,592 people have died.
