Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the expelled Bharatiya Janata Party MLA convicted in the Unnao rape case, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Tis Hazari court in Delhi. Judge Dharmesh Sharma has also imposed a fine of Rs 25 lakh on Kuldeep Singh Sengar. Under the judgment, the victim will have to pay Rs 10 lakh, while 15 prosecutors will have to pay. Earlier, after hearing both the sides, the court reserved the judgment before the lunch break.
Kuldeep Singh Sengar, convicted for raping a minor after kidnapping, has also been charged with Poxo, in which case the court has given the verdict of life imprisonment as the maximum punishment.
In the previous hearing, the counsel for the victim side had sought maximum compensation along with maximum punishment during the debate on the sentence. The defense counsel had sought the least punishment citing the MLA's daughters' marriage, social status and social service-political service.
